Doug and I are preparing for an upcoming beach getaway, aka a babymoon. We have a lot on the go this year (to put it mildly) and a stepping out of all of our planning, prepping and to-do lists for a relaxing weekend sounds like just what we need. The thought of weightless floating in a pool is very appealing right now too!
I've been meticulously planning what I'll pack for weeks, and Doug will throw his go-to summer clothing in a suitcase the night before we leave. Given that I'm currently rocking a baby bump that grows bigger by the week (that is the goal, of course), this trip requires even a little more planning than my typical approach. I'm bringing a few favorite pieces from my honeymoon packing list that work with my current shape, and rounding it out with a few maternity-friendly items like these white jeans (non-maternity version here).
Here's my shortlist of what to pack for a beachy long weekend getaway:
Gap Icon Denim Jacket ~ This is the perfect thing to thrown on over casual dresses at the end of the day, and therefore indispensable to my getaway wardrobe (see: here and here). And, of course, it's so versatile on the plane.
Straw Hat ~ Don't leave home without it. It keeps the sun off your face and looks stylish too.
Lively Striped Bikini ~ Let's get real for a moment. I have more bikinis than is justified for someone who lives in the Northeast but, with my pregnant body changing, most of them don't fit. Luckily I discovered Lively when my friend Cristina included them in a round up of the best maternity / nursing bras, and I promptly ordered their sporty maternity bra. Lo and behold Lively also makes the cutest blue and white striped bikini at a price point that I can get comfortable with. Swoon. The same stripe also comes in a classic tank version and a bandeau top.
Jack Rogers Hampton Sandals ~ Classic for a reason. After holding out for years because so many of my girlfriends wear them and I like to be contrarian, I now have a pair in platinum and they go with everything. Plus, their perfect for where we headed! (Any guesses?!?)
Rebecca Taylor La Vie RT White T-Shirt with Lace ~It looks like a blouse but wears like a t-shirt. How cute would this be with distressed cut offs? Rebecca Taylor does the best gauzy blouses for summer (see here and here) and I like this slightly more relaxed option.
Hat Attack Straw Tote ~ Ugh, so cute but also so sold out. This one is very similar.
Amour Vert Striped Dress ~ I have last year's version (the only difference is double slits on mine), and man, do I love it. It should be noted that I have a lifelong love affair with basque stripes. It's also sustainably made and at a great price point for the style and quality. Have I mentioned how much I adore Amour Vert?
Tory Burch Caftan ~ I have a colorful caftan from years ago that was the first thing I packed for this trip. Pregnancy has only added to my appreciation of a good caftan as a beach/pool cover up. I prefer colorful styles but this one also comes in black too, if that's your thing.
Now don't forget to pack your sunscreen!
