My brother and sister-in-law introduced me to Brooklyn Roasting Company the first week I moved to Brooklyn, and later gave me their coffee card when they moved out of the borough (that's love, folks). This spot quickly worked its way to the top of my list of favorite coffee shops. The main BRC in Dumbo is a loft-like, industrial space with huge windows that make the whole place feel warm and sunny even on cold, gray, winter days. I took advantage of that warm, homey vibe this past weekend to escape wintry mix.
My go-to drink is the Maple Shay, which is a latte with the subtlest sweetness from maple syrup. I've also started stocking Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee at home, and have been trying various different coffees in turn. My reigning favorite (so far) is the Peruvian, which is mild and ever so slightly sweet. If you're looking to visit, BRC has four locations, including one in Manhattan's Flatiron district and one inside the fantastic West Elm Market.
