The best gift decision I've ever made was to give my boyfriend, Doug, a cocktail making class for his 30th birthday. We had an absolute blast during the class, which was taught at the Brooklyn Kitchen by Tom Macy, the head bartender at the Clover Club. We left armed with recipes and techniques for classic cocktails, plus all the basic tools for a well-stocked bar. The happy consequence of course is that we've enjoyed making cocktails at home ever since.
I've included below the recipe for my personal favorite, the French 75:
- 1.5 ounces gin
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons sugar
Mix gin, lemon juice, and sugar over ice. Top up with Champagne. Garnish with lemon peel.
